T2 Campus (Genk)

The T2 campus at Thorpark in Genk is a technological training campus in a unique landscape where innovation and entrepreneurship meet. Thorpark is an old coal mining site that, after its decline in the 1980s, has been completely renovated and given a new function. All activities at the Thorpark are related to innovation, energy and technology. At the park one distinguishes:

- ThorCentral, the main building that now serves the organization of events
- Energyville 1 and 2, low-regulation European research centers into new energy technologies
- IncubaThor, the breeding ground for start-up companies
- T2 campus, the training center for Technology and Talent

In the near future, the activities will be expanded with the development of a business park. The T2 campus is a unique concept in which 3 partners have invested together to equip rooms with the most modern and up-to-date techniques. VDAB, Syntra Limburg and EducaThor (on behalf of the city of Genk) found each other in common needs and worked together to develop a solution in the concept of the T2 campus where labs and classrooms are used together.
VDAB organizes training courses for jobseekers, Syntra Limburg provides training courses for all adults who wish to learn more or reorient on their own initiative and EducaThor organizes all educational activities (from primary education up to and including master's programs) on campus. In this way the 3 core partners reach the entire society. The themes covered by all courses are New Energy, New Materials, Electrical and ICT. The campus has unique training materials such as the SmartGrid (smart energy networks), the SIF4o0 (Industry 4.0), an e-mobility lab and a plastics lab with 3D printing technology. In each of the 4 themes, an InnovaThor is responsible for keeping the labs up-to-date, observe the market for new developments and necessary training and developing a network with companies and partners.
